The Young Christian Lady’s Reasons

For Wanting to Earn a Bachelor’s Degree at

Indiana University

Background

The Young Christian Lady was required to write an essay on her long-term academic and career goals for an Indiana University course titled “Education X152 Keys to Success.”

The Young Christian Lady submitted her essay prior to her discovery of the offensive coarse material in “English W131 Elementary Composition.”

The importance of her essay is twofold:

First, she expresses her devotion to her Christian faith.

Second, she expresses her sincere desire to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University.

It’s this Young Christian Lady’s academic career that Myles Brand and the other senior officials at Indiana University destroyed.

All the 16-year old Christian Young Lady wanted was a fair chance

without having to compromise her Christian Faith.

Long-Term Academic and Career Goal Essay

My long-term academic goal is to get a bachelors degree with a business concentration from Indiana University Distance Learning.  My long-term career goal is to be a wife and mother and to work as an accountant in a business with my family.  This essay examines my values, priorities, learning styles, interests, habits and limitations and how these traits determined my long-term goals.

My highest personal value is living a Godly life, pleasing God and obeying His Laws.  One of the Godliest roles of a woman is to be a wife and mother; it is my ultimate long-term goal.  To best live a Godly life, I should work for my family.  Being with my family is another high value of mine.  For a career, I would want to work as an accountant in a business owned by my family.  A business degree would be useful as the knowledge and skills would be helpful in my business activities.  My personal values have determined my career and have caused me to want to get a college degree in business.  My Godly values have determined my academic and career goals.

Two priorities of mine are to properly manage my resources and to stay out of debt.  With a business degree I have a greater chance of earning a higher income, and if handled well, it will keep me from falling into debt.  Taking financial courses will help me to better manage my resources and be more proficient in my occupation.  My priorities have influenced my career and my decision to get a college degree with a concentration in business.

My personal learning styles are reflective, linear, factual, and visual.  As a reflective learner I learn best by working alone.  In a classroom, I would not be able to work by myself or stop to think about what I had just learned.  As a linear learner who works problems out in a slow step-by-step logical order, I appreciate being able to do assignments at my own speed.  Being able to work on an assignment straight through, instead of having to be interrupted by different classes, is my preferred way of learning.  As a factual learner, I learn best through specific facts.  When learning facts or studying, I am most productive late at night, when normal college “in-person” classes are not being taught.  As a visual learner, I learn a lot from what I see.  With Distance Learning I have the opportunity to use lots of visual information.  My learning styles determined my academic goal of getting my degree through Distance Learning.

One of my interests is to increase my general knowledge.  The college program is helping me to do that.  Expanded knowledge will help me in my career.  My interest has caused me to want to get a college degree.

One of my habits is studying late at night when I am most productive.  Because most regular “in-person” classes are not taught late at night, Distance Learning works for me.  My habit has influenced my want of getting a college degree through Distance Learning.

One of my limitations is sometimes being a slow learner.  In a classroom, I might not be able to keep up.  With Distance Learning I am able to work at my own speed, and make sure I understand everything before I move on.  My limitation has caused me to want to get my college degree through Distance Learning.

As you can now see my values, priorities, learning styles, interests, habits and limitations have in fact brought about my desire to have a family and to get a college degree with a business concentration.  This degree and the knowledge associated with it will assist me in my family activities and when working in my family’s business.
